The Temperature gauge on my silverado keeps bouncing around from all the way hot to normal operating range. When this first started I filled the radiator with coolant, Temp gauge keeps bouncing from all the way hot to normal operating range.
When this first started I changed the thermostat, that did not fix the problem. I went to the local parts store to get a temperature sending unit, but they said that there was not one listed for a silverado 5.Yagpdb role menu 2019
Where is the temperature sending unit located on this vehicle? Do you.
Oil Pressure Gauge Fluctuates While Driving: Troubleshooting the Issue
It shares a temp sensor with the computer. It sounds like there is air in the system, probably due to a leak but could be a blown head gasket also. Was this answer.
Try checking the coolant temperature sensor-On left cylinder head, near No. Ras is right. Upon paying close attention to the tach, I noticed it was jumping around. I tapped on it and it moved around. Yes, I did search the threads and found a couple emails but nothing adequate to answer my questions so I decided to post the questions. I have to admit, I have no idea how tachs work, except to say, don't they normally hook up to the 1 cylinder? I checked the wires on the back of the guage and none of the wires were loose.

I would say on an inboard motor, the tach should be getting the signal from the coil.Automotive Forums. This will go on for a few seconds to a couple of minutes, then they resume normal operation. It may occur again on the same trip or not for a week or so. There are no other symptoms, no CEL, no obvious trigger or apparent after-affects, the van runs fine.

I'm gonna bet on relays The PCM power, But I would wait until you have starting issues before wasting money Gauges went crazy, temp gauge pegged, tach pegged ,speedo pegged and then swinging wildly. Van ran fine while this was happening. The only thing I noticed was that my son had an X-box game and small tv plugged into an inverter powered from the lighter socket.

I pulled that out and the gauges stayed peggedtach, 0 speedo-max. After some minutes I plugged it in again and the same problem. Unplugged and hit dashboard above the wheel, all back to normal instantly. No more problems since. I had riden over bumpy rutted roads with lots of body flexing that day. Also lots of hilly roads so I was turning on and of the overdrive via the button.

I keep good records on my fuel use. There have been times when my fuel guage is showing empty and I run another 70, 80 miles. Rigjockey In Gord we trust! I used to get that, somtimes the float gets stuck but it usualy worked itself out after hitting a few bumps. Racer X 69 Member. Usually problems with the fuel gauge are related to poor grounds or corrosion at the sender connection.

In other words, do you observe high RPMs and hear a lot of engine noise, while the car is accelerating slower than usual? If the transmission is not slipping, then the problem probably lies in the engine. If the car is not up to date with maintenance, I would begin with replacing anything—plugs, plug wires, air filter, fuel filter—that is overdue for service.
However, as a first step, I would strongly recommend getting the stored trouble codes read. The only problem is that this car is so old and has the outmoded OBD I system that some garages will be unable to interpret those codes.
Make some calls to find a garage that is able to interpret OBD I codes, and that should lead them to the source of the problem. When the tachometer is jumping around, does the engine power feel uneven? If your check engine light is on, you need to have the stored trouble codes read. Some parts stores do that for free, but might not be able to diagnose your car because I believe it uses the older On Board Diagnostics spec referred to as OBD-I.
You may have to take it to the dealer for diagnosis. Please describe if the engine power jumps around with the rpm gauge jumping around. And, you could answer the other questions you have been asked, in order for anyone to be able to help you. My engine power seems to jump around with the rpm gauge causing my car to shimmy or surge at times. My check engine light pops on but not all the time while that is happening. I will work on taking it in the have codes read.Dahboard gauges do malfunction, and fixing them is usually beyond the scope of a home technician.
So your oil pressure gauge fluctuates while driving? But the oil gauge is different. If something is wrong with the engine, it can mean a greater problem than looking for the nearest gas station.
Cars do get low on engine oilespecially now that we no longer have full-service gas stations to check it for us. Top it off. Contrary to popular thinking, using an engine oil that is too thin will not make the gauge reading erratic on an engine that is in good mechanical condition. If installing a thicker viscosity oil raises the oil pressure, then something major is wrong inside the engine. Besides, modern cars are designed to use very thin oil anyway.
Dashboard gauges do occasionally go bad, but it is very rare. Repairing a dashboard or gauge is usually is beyond the scope of DIY car maintenance. The gauge does receive its data from a simple sending unit on the engine, and those sending units do go bad quite frequently.
So how do you determine which one is at fault, the gauge or its sender? You can buy an inexpensive universal oil pressure gauge from an auto parts store.
Locate the oil pressure sending unit on the engine the parts store can sometimes tell you where it isremove it and follow the instructions that come with your universal oil pressure gauge to hook it up. Then drive the car and see what the gauge does. Be careful to watch the road as you do this. If the oil pressure is good and reads stable, replace the sending unit and drive the car again to verify your repair.
A bad sending unit will usually also shows signs of leaking engine oil, usually very badly. Many repairs have been done unnecessarily because the repair shops did not get accurate information from the customer.
Miscommunications do happen. So the first few seconds after starting the engine the gauge reads very low. Then the gauge suddenly shoots upward to normal and the ticking noise stops. You have the wrong oil filter installed. Many engines require their oil filter to have an anti-drain back valve. That prevents oil from draining downward, away from critical engine components when the engine is not running.
